As many parents and grandparents age and begin to need more assistance, navigating the channels for finding care, guidance and support can be challenging and time consuming. To provide direction, understanding and education for this growing group of people, Mustang Creek Estates of Burleson – a residential assisted living and memory care community – will host a series of educational talks which will focus on different aspects of finding senior care, services and helpful information. The series is free and open to the public, and will be held on the last two Wednesdays in April from 6 to 8 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments served.

Each event will be held at Mustang Creek Estates of Burleson, located inside House B, at 1155 NW John Jones Drive.

The informational sessions include area experts who will discuss the following topics:

•             On April 19, Ronald Palmer, an adult geriatric nurse practitioner with nearly 30 years in the medical field will share resources and information about Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other memory impairments. Palmer hopes that attendees will gain a better understanding of how these diseases work, treatment options, end-of-life planning and local resources available.

•             On April 26, Don Stockard of “Volunteer for Texas Vets” will discuss with families the benefits available to senior veterans and their spouses, as well as how they can become eligible to receive financial assistance for long-term care, which can exceed $2,000 a month in benefits. Stockard has been helping veterans and their families for eight years and is an accredited VA claims agent with extensive experience navigating current issues facing veterans. He provides these services to veterans and their families free of charge.

Attendees interested in attending one or both sessions should RSVP by contacting Ben Krug, sales coordinator at Mustang Creek Estates of Burleson, at 817-205-3772. The event is sponsored by Restoring Function Home Health.
