Help Nab the Bad Guys: Tarrant County DA Launches New Website Feature for Citizens

How often have you seen a quick image or video of a criminal flash by on the 6 o'clock news, only to forget minutes later what the person looked like?

The Tarrant County District Attorney's office understands how easily that can happen and wants to offer citizens another resource for being the eyes and ears of public safety officials.

"Help Nab the Bad Guys" is a new feature on the DA's website that displays surveillance videos, photos and sketches associated with unsolved crimes. The public site allows Tarrant County residents to take part in helping police zero in on suspects, and the DA's office hopes that the more prevalent these images of criminals are to citizens, the more likely they'll be to potentially recognize suspects and lead police to arrests.

District Attorney Joe Shannon is the brains behind the feature and said he wanted to provide citizens an opportunity to check the website periodically for photos and videos to see which cases are still not closed.

“I felt a need existed to have an archive location for videos, sketches, or still photos that would permit the public to review those items from time to time,” Shannon said. “Most of our citizens really want to assist law enforcement apprehend the perpetrators. It is our strong belief that the more exposure, the greater the likelihood someone will bring forward some significant information which might result in the arrest and conviction of the offender.”

They're asking members of the public not to hesitate if you have any information that might be helpful to officials and to regularly peruse the content on "Help Nab the Bad Guys."

Outstanding cases will remain on the site until arrests are made. In the meantime, you can follow @TarrantDAOffice on Twitter and bookmark "Help Nab the Bad Guys" on your laptop.
