This month, Mustang Creek Estates of Burleson opened its doors to its first residents. Among them are new faces and longtime residents of Burleson looking for personalized assisted living and memory care in an affordable neighborhood setting. From participating in daily, engaging activities, to making a difference in the greater community, the staff and residents look forward to getting to know each other while creating the family-like bonds that the environment promotes. Filled with love and friendship, up to 15 seniors will live in each of the community’s six specially designed homes. The focal point of each home is the open kitchen, where residents can see their food being prepared from scratch and smell the aromas of delicious home-cooked meals. Residents receive personal care and enjoy participating in enriching and fulfilling daily activities in their home and in other homes throughout the community. This flexible schedule allows residents to continue living as they did in their own homes and at an affordable price.

This concept appealed to 85-year-old Nona Reeves, who first moved to Burleson in 1941 with her family. While in Burleson, she worked for Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District in the cafeteria, and even drove a school bus. She moved to St. Louis several years ago to live with her daughter, but returned to Texas a few months ago because she missed her home state. For the last few months, she has lived with her other daughter in Rendon. Since she has paid for long-term care insurance for decades, Reeves decided to move to Mustang Creek Estates of Burleson and surround herself with other seniors her age who engage in activities she enjoys.

“I’m excited to be with other people my age, and do activities with the outside community, like working with children and trying out new things,” said Reeves “I don’t drive, so it was difficult to live out in the country with my daughter. I had a hard time making friends with other seniors in the area. It was fun to pick out my room when the community was under construction, and I am excited to get settled into life here. It’s a little bit of a different concept from what I’ve seen in the area, and I already feel like it is a neat place to live.”

“We’re so glad to have our doors open and officially start serving seniors in the community,” said Kevin Willmeth, executive director of Mustang Creek Estates of Burleson. “As we get to know each resident, we will tailor our activities to create an environment that is personally fulfilling and enhances their already full lives. We will use their hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes to create and explore activities, and we will customize the environment so that each resident’s unique personality is taken into account. We intend to become a family, and look forward to sharing life together.”
