Blue Goose Cantina Unveils Limited-Time Augies Cocina Menu Featuring Bold New Flavors

Blue Goose Cantina is turning up the heat beginning Monday, March 9 with a limited-time menu from Augies Cocina, bringing crave-worthy dishes and refreshing sips to the table. Available for a short time only, the new offerings spotlight fresh, crave-worthy flavors, house-made touches and the signature flair guests have loved since 1984.

Leading the lineup are Birria Flautas ($16). Tender birria blended with Jack cheese is rolled in a flour tortilla, fried to a golden crisp and topped with lettuce, cilantro cream, spicy creamosa, pico de gallo and queso fresco. The dish is served with Spanish rice and rich consommé for dipping.

Pollo Adobado ($17) delivers a savory-sweet balance. An adobo-marinated chicken breast is grilled and finished with grilled pineapple pico, then paired with poblano rice, sautéed vegetables and a side of chipotle cream sauce.

Seafood lovers can dive into Fajita Shrimp Tacos ($17). Mesquite-grilled Blue Diamond shrimp are tucked into four mini flour tortillas and layered with cabbage slaw, roasted corn, avocado, chipotle mayo and queso fresco. The tacos are served with poblano rice and black beans for a satisfying finish.

To complement the new dishes, Blue Goose Cantina introduces two alcohol-free refreshers. The Watermelon Aqua Fresca ($6) blends premium El Cantinero cordial with fresh watermelon flavors and is topped with sweet grilled pineapple and jalapeños for a subtle kick. The Nada Colada ($6) is a blended piña colada without alcohol, offering tropical flavor without the morning-after regrets.

Turkey is a smart choice for your plate, said Maureen Brown, clinical assistant professor and interim executive director of the dental hygiene program at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas. However, limit the amount of turkey skin to a minimum due to its high fat and calorie content, which can promote inflammatory diseases like obesity and diabetes.

The main oral health risk of eating turkey is the potential of it getting stuck between the teeth, which can trap bacteria leading to infection. she said.

Brown recommended stepping away from the festivities for a quick floss.

Fill your plate with vegetables, too. Carrots and celery are often called natural toothbrushes. Crunchy carrots are high in fiber and help remove plaque while chewing. Crisp celery not only cleans teeth but also freshens breath, a bonus when greeting all the relatives.

If youre craving something sweet, grab an apple instead of cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie or candied yams they all contain unhealthy added sugars. Apples are high in fiber and water, and both boost saliva production.

Sweet potatoes are a good option, Brown said. Like apples, they promote saliva flow, which helps wash away food particles and neutralize acids that break down enamel. Plus, theyre rich in vitamins C and A, which support gum health and tissue repair. Skip adding marshmallows on top, as those arent part of any healthy diet.

Eat small portions of your traditional sugary or unhealthy dishes if you must; however, keep a glass of water nearby to rinse your mouth and wash away food particles quickly, Brown said.

Dont forget to brush about 30 minutes after eating to help prevent decay, she said.

Around here, community means everything. Dodies Rockwall has always been more than a place to eat. Its where friends gather, families celebrate, and neighbors lend a hand. On Tuesday, November 18, were inviting our community to join us in supporting a Forney family whose story of faith and strength has touched our hearts.

Emily was diagnosed with Friedreichs Ataxia (FA) at just 15 years old. FA is a rare, progressive neurological disease that affects balance, coordination, and muscle strength. When doctors shared that Emily would likely need a wheelchair by her early twenties, it was one of those moments that stops time when life suddenly looks different, yet love and determination grow even stronger. Instead of giving in to fear, Emily and her parents, Alexis and Richard Penn, chose resilience and light.

Now 32 and living near the Forney-Heath area, Emily is married with four children. She lives life fully cooking, caring for her family, and adapting with remarkable strength and grace. As her mother describes it, So many people facing disabilities have a choice: to live in darkness or in the light. Weve always chosen the light.

Through their involvement with the Friedreichs Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), the Penn family has seen extraordinary progress firsthand. What began as a small grassroots organization in 1998 has grown into a powerful research network driving more than 13 clinical trials and the first FDA-approved treatment for FA, released just last year. About 95% of every dollar raised goes directly toward research which includes things like genetic therapy, protein restoration, and other promising paths to a cure.

The Penn's believe strongly in what the community and research can accomplish. Weve been riding this train for 17 years, and were not stopping, Alexis said says. I tell Emily shes 32 now Youre going to see a cure in your lifetime. For them, fundraising isnt just about treatment its about faith in the future and the belief that every small act of kindness brings that future closer.

On Tuesday, November 18, Dodies will donate 25% of all dinner food sales to FARA in Emilys honor, helping to fund ongoing studies and provide hope for families living with FA.

Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) invites you to raise a glass and savor creativity at the 16th Annual Art & Wine Festival in historic downtown Winnsboro. This FREE, two-day celebration perfectly blends fine art, Texas wines, irresistible food and rich Texas music, making it the ideal fall weekend escape - and it's just two hours from DFW! The festival returns to The Bowery in downtown Winnsboro on Friday, November 7, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year's festival features several DFW artists, including Dana Brock and Linda Donaho from McKinney, Hanna de Volska and Bethany Klein from Fort Worth, Daniel Dziuba from Carrollton, Essie Graham from Plano and Sandy Shiroma from Arlington.

The weekend event offers festival goers a remarkable juried showcase of 45 artists, from Deborah Bartletts shimmering fused glass mosaics to Brocks vivid watercolors, Bettine Godwins bold oil paintings and Kyle Jordans nature-inspired woodworking. Guests can stroll among fine art in a variety of mediums, handcrafted ceramics, elegant hand-dyed silk fashions and more, each piece as unique as the artist behind it.

And what pairs better with art than a good pour? Guests can sip wines from nine Texas wineries, including Landon Winery, Cicada Ridge Vineyard and Maydelle Wines, or sample seasonal craft brews from Winnsboros own Cypress Creek Southern Ales.

No festival is complete without good eats, and this years lineup is as tempting as ever, offering both decadent specialty food vendors and fun food truck options. Specialty offerings include Grazed & Co., with individual gourmet charcuterie boxes and D&R Gourmet Blends olive oils. Winnsburger food truck will be on site with legendary burgers and tots, and La Doña Cocina Móvil will spice things up with street tacos.

Ambience for the festival will be provided by The Kirbys, Eves Road, Stacey Knight-Finley, and Kevin Tinney and Chase Glover, ensuring the Bowery is filled with live music as well as art and wine.

For those who want a taste of cowboy culture, dont miss Cowboy Tales, a free juried art exhibit in the gallery at Winnsboro Center for the Arts, which celebrates the traditions of the American West.

The 8th Annual Plano Food + Wine Festival, presented by Kroger Delivery, will return to Legacy West on Saturday, November 1st, from 12 PM to 6 PM. This highly anticipated event is known for bringing together thousands of foodies, wine lovers, and friends for an unforgettable day of indulgence and entertainment. Guests can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with wine tasting, delicious bites, live cooking demonstrations, shopping, and more.

The Food Tasting Pass gives guests access to sample dishes from 15 of the areas top restaurants between 12 PM and 4 PM. Each restaurant brings its best and competes for the coveted Peoples Choice Award!
